EVENT OF THE WEEK: La Tomatina in Spain

Always wanted to fling a tomato at someone’s face? Well, this August 25th is the perfect opportunity to do so without consequences. The tiny village of Buñol in the Community of Valencia invite people from all over the world for a huge tomato fight.

Over 30.000 participants prepare for the battle with lots of ammunition: Around 125.000 kilos of ripe tomatoes will be brought in by trucks and then it’s every man and woman for themselves! The only rule is to give the fruit a good squish before you hurl it towards somebody. How fun!

The aftermath of the fight puts any blood-injected, horror movie to shame.

It so happens the tradition of ‘La Tomatina‘ was born way back in 1945 when some locals got carried away in a restaurant food fight. Ever since then, the tradition of the worlds biggest food fight has established and attracts thousands and thousands of participants each year.
