Sport in April

As the weather gets better, all sport fans bust outside for some physical action.

The final month of the National Basketball Association has started. The NBA has a great overview of who is playing against whom on their website, which you find right here.

Golfers have their eye on the Madeira Island Open. The Porto Santo golf club is the host of the Madeira Island Open on the PGA European Tour. One of the first European tournaments of the new season, it has a prize purse of almost US$700k and is running up until the 19^th of May.

Bands on Tour – April

This month is – as always – jam packed with bands and artists on tour. Have you checked into Adele’s new album? It surely is a keeper. This woman can actually sing really really well, no wonder she is Number 1 in the charts. She’ll be rocking the US next month and tickets are going fast, make sure you don’t miss out. Bob Seger is out and about to wow people too. Do you remember ’still the same’ from 1978? what an awesome song. Well, Bob is touring the US too, presenting new songs and evergreens. This should be good. You find correct dates and stops here.

This one is for all Europeans: Portugal the Man are doing Brussels, Zurich, Paris and quite a few dates in Germany this month. Its not to miss! Portugal the Man is one of the hottest Indie Bands around these days.

Lil Wayne is also touring throughout the US and Europe. There had been reports all over the net recently saying Lil Wayne‘s visa has been denied from countries in Europe, because of his criminal record, but a rep for Tunechi has said they are untrue. In case you’re unfamiliar with him– he is a successful american rapper with platinum sales! He also appeared on the Destiny’s Child top ten single “Soldier” in 2004.

Music News in April: Katy Perry, Stevie Wonder and more

Wow. Spring is already getting to people. We have a bit of amazing gossip for you:

Calvin Harris and Katy Perry reportedly had a bit of a fight on Twitter. Calvin’s tweet said “Sorry to all who wanted to see me with Katy – her team suddenly moved the goalposts, and i was to appear on stage with no production. Trust me you would have been more disappointed SEEING the show than u are with me cancelling.”

Katy then tweeted @CalvinHarris “funny the goal post seems to be perfectly fine for New Young Pony Club, Yelle, Robyn, Marina & The Diamonds to name a few. or how bout Janell Monae and her 16 piece band… Etc… it’s fine, I’m used to you cancelling on me, it’s become ur staple!”

Also Robbie Williams seemed to be in cancellation mode. He was meant to appear on the UK’s version of the X-Factor but reportedly turned down the offer. Simon Cowell was thought to have offered the Take That star a multi million pound deal, to join the judging panel of the TV talent show alongside Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue. Apparently Robbie is not in need of any dough…

Meanwhile Stevie Wonder has admitted that he would love to join the lineup of Simon Cowell’s new X Factor panel in the US. Reportedly he said “Simon should give me a buzz. I love X Factor and to be a judge would be great. Seeking out for new talent? I have an ear for it.”

Jazz Happenings this Month

Jazz fans, listen up! The AMR Jazz festival has now become an annual rendezvous for lovers of jazz in Geneva. The concerts take place in the Alhambra and will present the Phat Jazz Trio, Claudia Quintet +1, Dave Douglas Brass Ecstasy, the Mary Halvorson Trio and many more.

The Association for Improvised Music was founded in 1971 to promote and encourage especially jazz but also contemporary music and the festival is a real gem as they managed to keep it fairly small and independent over the years. Check their website for all dates.

Another jazzy highlight are the free outdoor Jazz concerts in Houston, Texas, which are on every thursday night during April 2011. Blankets, lawn chairs and picnics are welcome; food, beer and wine are available for purchase. A beautiful idea! You can look up schedules right here.

Last but not least, we have the Festival de Jazz de Valado dos Frades in Portugal which is on from April 8–16, 2011. What to expect? The Bernardo Sassetti Trio, the Susana Santos Silva Quinteto and the Miguel Amado Group.

New Rock Albums in April

The music madness is about to continue… This month, all lovers of rock will get their money worth.

The Kills are about to release their new work called Blood Pressures – and already have a free track online. Just go to their website and enter your email to receive your free download. You may as well stick it on the hard drive of your STREAMIUM straight away.

Raveonettes are poppin out new material this month and its called ‘Raven In The Grave‘.

Elbow seem to have an important message to all male friends: Build A Rocket Boys! What they mean by this should be found out by yourself.

And now we’re getting to the really important stuff: the much loved Foo Fighters are back with ‘Wasting Light’ . Dave Grohl definately is one of the old school – having played the drums in legendary band Nirvana as well as side projects with Queens of the Stone Age, you may as well call him the godfather of Rock. Check their website for all upcoming gigs and festivals this summer!

TV On The Radio’s new album Nine Types Of Light is coming out in the middle of April, as well as the Meat Puppets ‘Lollipop’. We seriously don’t know where to get all the money from to purchase all of those releases. Good way to get around it is to listen to all new stuff on your STREAMIUM.

As we promised, we will keep you on track with all new releases in the second half of March. There is so much great stuff coming out at the moment, we don’t know where to start.

Okay, here is the quick overview: Panic! At The Disco is releasing Vices & Virtues plus they are on tour right now – check their website for details!

Grunge legend Soundgarden is bringing out their live album ‘Live on I5′.

One hit wonder Edwyn Collins is apparently ‘Losing Sleep’.

Punk Rockers Green Day declare themselves ‘Awesome As F**k’, which is a double live album.

For those who still live in the 80’s: There’s new stuff from Duran Duran too!

Hip Hop Fans should definately listen to Snoop Dogg’s new album ‘Doggumentary‘

South by Southwest 2011 Recap

The SXSW® Music and Media Conference has just celebrated its 25th Anniversary. What this is? South by Southwest showcases hundreds of gigs and bands from around the globe on over eighty stages in downtown Austin, Texas, USA.

There were also movie screenings, exhibitions, trade shows and panel discussions for the industry crowd.

To put it in simple words: This conference looks out for all those great new acts that will be on Hot Rotation next year!

The highlights of this year’s conference were The Foo Fighters’ secret act, Jack White, Erykah Badu, the Wu Tang Clan as well as James Blake plus hundreds and hundreds of other newbies that played venues all around Austin.

The great thing about it is: people like you and me can also get in on the action and purchase a ticket. The only downside to it: you will have to wait a full year!

You should go ahead and check the SXSW very own radio station via STREAMIUM, simply search for South By Southwest and make time pass more quickly until next year.

Paul McCartney Composes Work for New York City Ballet

These news have just hit the headlines: In an unexpected intersection of celebrity pop music and ballet — that most refined of the performing arts Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney has written a major orchestral work for the New York City Ballet. It is a love story titled “Ocean’s Kingdom” and will have its premiere in September.

He is not just the most successful songwriter in the history of popular music. McCartney is a multiple Grammy Award- and Academy Award-winning English singer-songwriter, poet, composer, multi-instrumentalist, entrepreneur, record producer, film producer, painter, and animal rights and peace activist. No surprise then he’s off to write for the Ballet now. He gained worldwide fame as a member of The Beatles, alongside John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, but surely we don’t need to tell you this. Check out all news on his website.

Bands on Tour in March

The music business never stops putting out new tour-dates, so here’s a small overview of some of the highlights in March.

Sir Elton John is touring the US with stops in New York, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and lots more. It is his greatest hits tour, so this might be the very last chance to catch him. He’ll be playin Europe from late May, check his website for details.

Also on tour in the US: legendary Queens of the Stone Age, just before coming over to tour Europe in May. The tickets went on sale just last week, so make sure you get in on the action. Even though Bass player Nick Oliveri won’t be joining the tour, you’ll still get Josh Homme with a bunch of qualified musicians. It will be all worth it.

Guess who’s back with a few exclusive UK Shows? Boyzone! Yikes! Now 17 years into their career, the slightly optimistically named Boyzone are still undoubtedly popular and as well as old hits, the playlist draws from their latest album Brother.

Radio Station Big Oldies from Chicago will play you lots of Elton John, check it out on your STREAMIUM by searching for Big Oldies and listen to all those evergreens like ‘Rocket Man’ or ‘Still Standing’ always make our days!
