Shortfilm fans listen up! Flickerfest International Short Film Festival is on! Australia’s premier short film address, Flickerfest International Short Film Festival is happening for the 20^th time and tours the country after opening at Sydney’s Bondi Beach Pavilion. Fancy a bit of New York in the middle of Europe? New York Comedy Nights in Paris: Every Friday New York’s comedy scene comes to Le Pranzo in Paris. In-the-know French locals and tourists have their funny bones tickled by amazing NYC comedians, and guest stand-up acts fresh off the plane at Charles de Gaulle.

Another little something not to be missed: Egon Schiele’s exhibition at the Orangery in Vienna’s Lower Belvedere gallery. The portraits by Schiele, influenced by the developments in psychoanalysis at that time, attempted to depict his models’ thoughts and state of mind. Around 100 portraits and self-portraits are included in the exhibition, some of which have never been shown in public before in Austria.

Grammies & BAFTA 2011

This Sunday is Grammy time! The 53^rd Grammy Awards will take place on 13^th of February 2011 at the Staples Center in L.A. This extremely sought after prize recognizes outstanding achievement in the music industry and it will be broadcast by CBS.

Rumour has it, that Gwyneth Paltrow will be singing a Country Song together with Cee Lo Green at the Award Ceremony. We’re not entirely sure about her being a singer now, but apparently she can keep up with her famous husband Chris Martin of Coldplay.

And here it comes: Mick Jagger will be performing for the first time at the Grammys, too! Other than that, you can expect performances by Eminem, Lady Gaga, Arcade Fire and Katy Perry. Quite a nice line-up!

Also just around the corner: the BAFTAS. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts is the UK’s leading independent charity working with the film, television and video games industries and yes, they do have their own award.

This year’s celebration of the very best in film will take place on Sunday 13 February at the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden and will also be broadcast via BBC 1 and BBC 3.

Food Festivals in February

Did you have a big enough break from the culinary binge that went on over X-Mas? Have you done your fair bit of sport since then? If so, then we have a few good tips for a great culinary weekend.

There is for one Restaurant Week in New York City until the 6th of February. Steak at the Meatpacking District? Dim Sum in Korea Town? Lasagne in little Italy? You have it all on the tips of your fingers – presumed you are lucky enough to be in NYC next week!

Another event we’re dying to go to: Salon du Chocolat in Tokyo, Japan. It is not only a well-known trade and industry exhibition worldwide in the chocolate field, but also an experience by itself. It’s on until the 14th of February and the fare promises heavenly tastes from the finest chocolatiers from all over the planet. Yum yum!

In case you need some inspiration right now, we would like to recommend a great NYC food blog to you: Orangette by Molly Wizenberg has won several awards and has been up and running since 2004. It surely is a great source of lovely recipes, of which all are illustrated with unique photos.

To top it all off, you should check out this foodshow over on KCRW: With ‘Good Food’ you can discover great restaurants that you’ve never heard of, the politics of consumption, explorations of cultures through their food customs and some of the most interesting people who devote their lives to various elements of the food supply. Catch up on Sport via STREAMIUM

This month is jam packed with sports events: we have the Australian Open going on until the 30^th of January, the US Figure Skating Championships from the 22 – 30 Jan 2011 in North Carolina, US as well as the Winter X Games!

Make sure you don’t miss out on the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado. It is the perfect place with its unparalleled ski runs, snow parks and off piste and covers a wide variety of snow sports: skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling and snowskating – this event is four days of non-stop action and its on from the 27^th – 30^th of January.

And from that date on it is all about counting back the days until THE 45TH ANNUAL Super Bowl XLV on February 6^th 2011. The game, to be played on February 6^th in Arlington, Texas, will pit the AFC champion Pittsburgh Steelers against the NFC champion Green Bay Packers to decide the NFL champion for the 2010 season. All eyes on Super Bowl!

Classical highlights in January

For all Jazz/Classical Music Lovers, we have a full schedule ahead for you! Sydney Port’s Jazz On The Water Concert is guaranteed to spread the celebratory fever citywide as infectious rhythms fill Johnstons Bay in Sidney on the 26^th of January.

Il Barbiere di Siviglia is back on at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London. With Rory Macdonald conducting. This event is running until early February and its a guaranteed hit: Il barbiere di Siviglia is packed full of dramatic and musical wit.

Another idea would be to enjoy ‘Sunday Concerts in the Park‘ in Bangkok. Music lovers picnic at Bangkok’s Lumpini Park on tropical winter afternoons for the annual Sunday Concerts in the Park. The orchestral ensemble plays both Thai and Western classical music and it’s completely free! This is probably the nicest way to spend a Sunday afternoon. This event is on until the 3rd of February.

If you don’t feel like leaving the house, you can certainly enjoy your favourite music at home with your STREAMIUM. Check out Espace Musique from Toronto, bringing you the finest in Jazz and Classical into the comfort of your own home.

What to get tickets for NOW

This post is a friendly heads up for you – there is a lot going on as far is touring is concerned, and if you wanna be in the first row, you probably should get shopping for tickets now.

So who’s on tour then?

Elton John is out and about with his band from January until July, starting the tour in Europe, heading over to Canada and the US before returning to Europe in early June. Check all dates here.

Another absolute highlight: Janelle Monáe and James Blunt are both starting their tour in February. Janelle is only doing a few European dates, while James is on a full blown international Tour.

It is also very likely that Interpol is coming to a town near you. Starting in January, the tour of New York City band Interpol will continue on until March. Chances are good you’ll catch one of their shows as they’ll be touring the US aswell as Europe.

Last but not least Jason DeRulo, Eliza Doolittle, Elbow, and David Guetta are out and about, for exact dates and venues follow the link!

For a fix of live music, tune into BBC 6 . ‘The Live Music Hour’ presents gems from the vast BBC sound archive including concerts and live sessions from a variety of artists – from the up and coming to the established to the long forgotten but still loved. Of course available via STREAMIUM.

Next week is being shaped by Fashion

Plenty of stuff going on next week for all fashion lovers!

First goodie for you is Hong Kong Fashion Week. This event takes over the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre and showcases the season’s collections from Asia’s freshest young designers. The biannual tradeshow draws 15,000 visitors and buyers. You can have your pop from the 17th until the 20th.

Fashionistas from all over the world head to Bread and Butter at Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport for their biannual fill of the forthcoming season’s staple trends. Hundreds of designers, from well-known labels to emerging talent, showcase their creations. It’s on from the 19th until the 21st. Another reason to travel to Berlin: Berlin Fashion Week is on from the 18th – 23rd of January.

If you wanna get in the mood for Fashion Week, we have a few amazing and very lovingly written Fashion blogs for you. Betty from France hosts the beautiful ‘Blog de Betty‘ with great styling tips and amazing pictures from her extensive travels.

Another gem in the blogosphere: What Is Reality Anyway? This blog by Krystal Simpson from New York is a must-read diversion for several hundred thousand visitors every month, and helped Krystal open doors to design collaborations with Coach and Quiksilver. WOW!

1st of Advent on Sunday, the 5th of December

So how do you get prepared for Christmas? Do you totally merge in the preparations or would you rather skip the solemnities?

We’d like you to dive into the madness gently, so we have a couple of events for you.

First of all, the candles of the Advent wreath are getting lit for the first time on Sunday. It is all about appreciating the situation you are in and spending time with the family. For this event, we’d like to suggest Forever Christmas Radio. As they claim on their website, from classic crooners to holiday pop, Forever Christmas will be your favorite station to help get you into the holiday spirit.

If you happen to be in Prague, make sure you go and see Santa. On St Nicholas’ Eve (5^th of December), Santa Claus himself wanders the streets of Prague. Accompanied by an angel and a devil, he dispenses material justice to the city’s children under their Christmas trees.

Also, most cities are lighting their public Christmas trees and decorations this weekend to mark the beginning of the city’s holiday season, so why not pop out for a nice, hot punch and watch the spectacle?
