Happy Birthday, Bob Dylan!

Robert Allen Zimmerman aka Bob Dylan was born May 24, 1941. Looking back at his career of 50 years and a Pulitzer Prize special citation for “his profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power.”

We think the situation requires a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY! At an age when most of his contemporaries have more or less given up on songwriting, he still produces first-rate albums and turned himself into a living legend.

Make sure you catch him on tour this June. He is covering pretty much all of Europe as of the 16^th of June, including Israel, England, Ireland, Norway, Germany and Sweden.

Show of the Week: Steve Lamacqs Round Table.

Steve Lamacq of BBC 6 is a true radio legend. He is probably the most competent person in the world when it comes to Indie and Alternative music that is not mainstream.

And now check this: his show, The Round Table, has the concept of him inviting guests and discussing all the hot, new indie releases. You should really tune in, it is amazing! The show is next broadcast on Thursday, the 17^th of March at 6 pm GMT and its a weekly programme, so in case you miss it this week, you can always just tune in next thursday!

Plus the BBC offers the lovely service of a Steve-Lamacq-Podcast which is available for full seven days after the show. You can also catch the guy weekdays from 4 – 7 pm GMT on BBC 6 Music, when Steve plays new and classic tracks from established artists, young groups and unsigned bands. Streamium’s favourite Hip Hop / Rap Blogs

Last time we dug out our favourite Indie Music Blogs – this time we’d like to make Hip Hop the center of attention.

We do enjoy reading Concreteloop. This week you can grab an overview of the Grammys in pictures, the coolest behind-the-stage-impressions and, of course, some new fresh music!

Earmilk also has a fantastic Hip Hop and Rap section. Highlights in the past few days were the new Video by Nas and Damian Marley, a free download for Eminem’s ‘Gimme the ball’ as well as Pusha-T with ‘My God’.

Also awesome: The Rap Up. These guys like to cook up unusual stuff! This is a little more underground, a little less mainstream than Earmilk. For some rare gems, add these guys via RSS feed or add them on Facebook for some fresh tunes, yo! (Picking up the lingo here:)

Video of the Week: Homeless with a silky ‘Radio voice

A viral video about a homeless guy was all the rage for the past few days. Ted Williams, a former drug and booze addict, happens to have a “God-given gift of a voice”. He was filmed standing at a crossing and presenting his ultimate ‘Radio voice’ before the video was uploaded on Youtube and caused worldwide attention. You can check it out here.

Since then the video has gone viral and radio stations and voiceover agencies have scrambled to locate him. Tony Florentino, programme director of WNCI radio in New York, said: “We’re on pins and needles, I think he really has no idea how big this is going to be.”

Ted is set to appear on WNCI this week and is expected to be offered £7,000 for future voiceover work so there’ll be plenty of chances to listen to his unique, silky voice via your STREAMIUM. Just search for WNCI via the search function.

ABC, CBS and CNN, ESPN and MTV are also said to be trying to bag appearances from him. Could this really be from rags to riches? What do you think?

TOUR OF THE WEEK: Mary J Blige + Metallica + Muse

Mary J. Blige is one of the hippest R’n’B personalities worldwide. Famous for her Genre-clashes between Rap, R’n’B and Pop. She worked together with George Michael, Wyclef Jean and U2. Now Mary J announced a three-date U.K. arena tour! The mini tour will be Blige’s first in the U.K. in more than two years. The tour will begin Nov. 2 at London’s O2 Arena followed by dates at Birmingham LG Arena and Manchester MEN Arena. British soul artist Lemar has been confirmed as support for the shows.

There is also a couple of dates left to see Metallica live on stage – they are playing Australia, New Zealand and Japan in October. Most of the dates have sold out but there is still tix for Japan and two Australian venues. Metallica released their 9^th studio Album in August 2008.

Muse are conquering the USA this month and in October before heading over to Australia in December. They start their show, playing on three huge skyscrapers. Get your tickets soon, because you shouldn’t miss this stage setting!

FILM NEWS: 80’s Comeback on Cinema Screens

It’s 1984 all over again at the movies. New this summer is a remake of the classic “The Karate Kid” with Jackie Chan starring as Kung Fu Master Mr. Han and Will Smith’s son Jaden Smith as 12-year old Dre Parker who is being bullied by a kung fu student, and must learn to stand up to him. Mr. Han then teaches him Kung Fu and turns him into ‘The Karate Kid’.

A film version of the 80s TV show “The A-Team.” also recently came out. Liam Neeson plays John ‘Hannibal’ Smith, Bradley Cooper is Ltd. Templeton ‘Faceman’ Peck  and Jessica Biel stars as Captain Charisa Sosa. Of course B.A. Baracus will be there too!

Something else to look forward to: A sequel of 80’s sci-fi hit “TRON” is coming out this year in December. The story evolves around father (played by Jeff Bridges) and son, who embark on a life-or-death journey across a visually-stunning digital universe with no less than Daft Punk composing the film score.

CBC Radio Film Reviewer Eli Glasner shares his big screen thoughts on the latest and greatest movies appearing at a cinema near you. Carlos Santana has been mixing blues, Afro-Cuban jazz, rock, fusion, and psychedelic guitar elements into his brand of Latin rock since the 1960s.
