Festivals in May

Alright, here we have some fun festivals for May – first one up is the Hang Out Music Festival. Its going down in Gulf Shores, US and has some dead good bands lined up.

Foo Fighters, Paul Simon, The Flaming Lips, plus Amos Lee, A Thousand Horses Bassnectar, Beats Antique, Cas Haley, Cee Lo Green, Civil Twilight, G Love & Special Sauce and so on and so forth. Sounds good? Check all details here.

This music is too soft for you? We can do harder! Rock on the Range is an annual rock festival featuring some of the most popular bands in hard rock, alternative rock, and metal today, with a classic band usually headlining the show. The festival is held at two venues; Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus and Canad Inns Stadium in Winnipeg, US.

This year you can expect a supreme line up. A Perfect Circle, Avenged Sevenfold, Black Label Society, Bullet For My Valentine, Danzig, Disturbed, Fu Manchu, KoRn,  Staind, Stone Sour … anything a Metal heart could wish for.

Bands on Tour – April

This month is – as always – jam packed with bands and artists on tour. Have you checked into Adele’s new album? It surely is a keeper. This woman can actually sing really really well, no wonder she is Number 1 in the charts. She’ll be rocking the US next month and tickets are going fast, make sure you don’t miss out. Check all dates here.

Bob Seger is out and about to wow people too. Do you remember ’still the same’ from 1978? what an awesome song. Well, Bob is touring the US too, presenting new songs and evergreens. This should be good. You find correct dates and stops here.

This one is for all Europeans: Portugal the Man are doing Brussels, Zurich, Paris and quite a few dates in Germany this month. Its not to miss! Portugal the Man is one of the hottest Indie Bands around these days.

Lil Wayne is also touring throughout the US and Europe. There had been reports all over the net recently saying Lil Wayne‘s visa has been denied from countries in Europe, because of his criminal record, but a rep for Tunechi has said they are untrue. In case you’re unfamiliar with him– he is a successful american rapper with platinum sales! He also appeared on the Destiny’s Child top ten single “Soldier” in 2004.

Jazz Happenings this Month

Jazz fans, listen up! The AMR Jazz festival has now become an annual rendezvous for lovers of jazz in Geneva. The concerts take place in the Alhambra and will present the Phat Jazz Trio, Claudia Quintet +1, Dave Douglas Brass Ecstasy, the Mary Halvorson Trio and many more.

The Association for Improvised Music was founded in 1971 to promote and encourage especially jazz but also contemporary music and the festival is a real gem as they managed to keep it fairly small and independent over the years. Check their website for all dates.

Another jazzy highlight are the free outdoor Jazz concerts in Houston, Texas, which are on every thursday night during April 2011. Blankets, lawn chairs and picnics are welcome; food, beer and wine are available for purchase. A beautiful idea! You can look up schedules right here.

Last but not least, we have the Festival de Jazz de Valado dos Frades in Portugal which is on from April 8–16, 2011. What to expect? The Bernardo Sassetti Trio, the Susana Santos Silva Quinteto and the Miguel Amado Group.

Radio Paradise sounds good to you? Radio Paradise is a blend of many styles and genres of music, carefully selected and mixed by two real human beings. You’ll hear modern and classic rock, world music, electronica, even a bit of classical and jazz.

New Rock Albums in April

The music madness is about to continue… This month, all lovers of rock will get their money worth.

The Kills are about to release their new work called Blood Pressures – and already have a free track online. Just go to their website and enter your email to receive your free download. You may as well stick it on the hard drive of your STREAMIUM straight away.

Raveonettes are poppin out new material this month and its called ‘Raven In The Grave‘.

Elbow seem to have an important message to all male friends: Build A Rocket Boys! What they mean by this should be found out by yourself.

And now we’re getting to the really important stuff: the much loved Foo Fighters are back with ‘Wasting Light’ . Dave Grohl definately is one of the old school – having played the drums in legendary band Nirvana as well as side projects with Queens of the Stone Age, you may as well call him the godfather of Rock. Check their website for all upcoming gigs and festivals this summer!

TV On The Radio’s new album Nine Types Of Light is coming out in the middle of April, as well as the Meat Puppets ‘Lollipop’. We seriously don’t know where to get all the money from to purchase all of those releases. Good way to get around it is to listen to all new stuff on your STREAMIUM.

Album Releases in March Part Two

As we promised, we will keep you on track with all new releases in the second half of March. There is so much great stuff coming out at the moment, we don’t know where to start.

Okay, here is the quick overview: Panic! At The Disco is releasing Vices & Virtues plus they are on tour right now – check their website for details!

Grunge legend Soundgarden is bringing out their live album ‘Live on I5′.

One hit wonder Edwyn Collins is apparently ‘Losing Sleep’.

Punk Rockers Green Day declare themselves ‘Awesome As F**k’, which is a double live album.

For those who still live in the 80’s: There’s new stuff from Duran Duran too!

Hip Hop Fans should definately listen to Snoop Dogg’s new album ‘Doggumentary‘

And all Pop loving fans amongst you should look forward to Britney Spears new release ‘Femme Fatale‘ which pretty much describes all of her fall outs from the past years. Follow her on Twitter if you like – we’re sure she has some clever things to say every once in a while:)

Show of the Week: Steve Lamacqs Round Table.

Steve Lamacq of BBC 6 is a true radio legend. He is probably the most competent person in the world when it comes to Indie and Alternative music that is not mainstream.

And now check this: his show, The Round Table, has the concept of him inviting guests and discussing all the hot, new indie releases. You should really tune in, it is amazing! The show is next broadcast on Thursday, the 17^th of March at 6 pm GMT and its a weekly programme, so in case you miss it this week, you can always just tune in next thursday!

Plus the BBC offers the lovely service of a Steve-Lamacq-Podcast which is available for full seven days after the show. You can also catch the guy weekdays from 4 – 7 pm GMT on BBC 6 Music, when Steve plays new and classic tracks from established artists, young groups and unsigned bands. Also make sure you follow the @Lamacqshow on Twitter while you check him out on your STREAMIUM.

Station of the Week: Van the Man Radio

Van Morrisson – absolute musical legend – has his own station dedicated to him. He was  born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1945 and has had an amazing musical career, including several Grammy nominations, 2 Grammy Awards in 1996 and 1998 for Have I Told You Lately That I Love You?” with The Chieftains and “Don’t Look Back” with John Lee Hooker.

Someone did love him enough to build an entire station around him. To be fair, the website could do with improvement, but the stream works just fine!
