So how do you get prepared for Christmas? Do you totally merge in the preparations or would you rather skip the solemnities?

We’d like you to dive into the madness gently, so we have a couple of events for you.

First of all, the candles of the Advent wreath are getting lit for the first time on Sunday. It is all about appreciating the situation you are in and spending time with the family. For this event, we’d like to suggest Forever Christmas Radio. As they claim on their website, from classic crooners to holiday pop, Forever Christmas will be your favorite station to help get you into the holiday spirit.

If you happen to be in Prague, make sure you go and see Santa. On St Nicholas’ Eve (5^th of December), Santa Claus himself wanders the streets of Prague. Accompanied by an angel and a devil, he dispenses material justice to the city’s children under their Christmas trees.

Also, most cities are lighting their public Christmas trees and decorations this weekend to mark the beginning of the city’s holiday season, so why not pop out for a nice, hot punch and watch the spectacle?

SHOW OF THE WEEK: Boy George looks back on Studio ‘54

BBC Radio 6 has a very special show for you next week: No less than Boy George, known for his extravagant  will be looking back at the most decadent disco in history: Studio ‘54!

The infamous club in New York City was open between 1977 and 1986 and became a symbol of the era. The posse included Mick and Bianca Jagger, Salvador Dali, Brooke Shields, Michael Jackson and Debbie Harry, just to name a few. Musically it was all about the greatest of Disco Tunes so prepare for Diana Ross, Candi Staton and The Gibson Brothers!

The show is called ‘Behind the Velvet Rope: Studio 54 Uncovered’ and it’s on Thursday, the 2^nd of December from 0:00 – 0:30 GMT (Part 1) and Friday, the 3^rd of November, same time for Part 2. EVENT: Barcelona International Festival of Contemporary Art (4th – 17th)

Time to see a good art show again! If you happen to be in Barcelona, make sure you check out the International Festival of Contemporary Art, or BAC!. This exhibition incorporates various media, from photography to paintings to installations, contributed by galleries all over the world.

The works are spread across several city venues but are united by the exhibits yearly changing theme. The theme for 2010 is „Time“, or, if you wanna practice your Spanish “El Tiempo.”

For art fans it is a great way to discover a fresh point of view on contemporary art as well as a gorgeous city. Make sure you also visit La Sagrada Família whilst down there as well as the gorgeous Gaudí park named Parc Güell.

EVENT OF THE WEEK: Film Festivals Everywhere!

For all you B-Movie, Shortfilm and Cinema-loving folks out there: This week is jam packed with great Film Festivals and hopefully there’s one in your region too!

First we have the AFI Los Angeles International Film Festival – held at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood and other venues around Hollywood Boulevard. This is Los Angeles’ largest and most prominent film festival and it is on from November 4^th til 11^th.

From November 7^th to 13^th, the International Film and Video Festival of Beijing Film Academy is also opening their gates to the public. Visit the campus to enjoy numerous international documentaries, animated cartoons and short films, produced by students from all over the world. The aim of the festival is to encourage and support the next generation of Film and Television professionals.

Also the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival ends this Thursday (11^th). Fort Lauderdale is increasingly gaining recognition as one of the most important regional film festivals in the US. Now in its 25th year, The FLIFF will reel out over 200 films from around the globe.

To get you in the mood for cinematic highlights, check out the trailer for ‘Black Swan’ which will screen at the AFI this year. It is the latest film by Darren Aronofsky, who was also responsible for ‘Requiem for a dream’ and ‘The Wrestler’, and one of the most highly anticipated films of 2011. The thriller zeros in on the relationship between a veteran ballet dancer (Natalie Portman) and a rival (Mila Kunis). Happy Halloween!

Booooo! Do you find it annoying or do you like a bit of dress up and spookyness? To be fair, kids ringing the doorbell for ‘Trick or Treat’ every ten minutes seems a bit unneccessary… but hey! So what do you have planned for Halloween coming up this Sunday ?

In case you have children, there’s a coupe of good events going on to keep them entertained. We have ‘Boo at the Zoo’ at Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City -  celebration. The family-orientated event welcomes children and their families in costumes to trick-or-treat at a number of candy booths at the zoo grounds.

We also have something for the grown-ups in store: The annual Fetish and Fantasy Halloween Ball at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas on the 30^th. This is gonna be a fun Halloween spectacle with costumes ranging from naughty to downright scary and sure as hell there won’t be any kids involved.

Winnie the Pooh’s Anniversary

What were your favourite books as a kid? And what do you read to your kids at bedtime nowadays?

It’s time to celebrate an all time kids classic: Winnie the Pooh’s birthday is on this week! October 14^th 1926 was the day creator A. A. Milne released the book which turned out to be a real hit. The story of the fictional bear havs been translated into many languages and even became the only Latin book ever to have been featured on the New York Times Best Seller List.

The bear has lived on ever since, as the rights were liscensed to Walt Disney Productions in 1961 and Disney has turned the Pooh into a real celebrity. It is estimated that Winnie the Pooh features and merchandise generate as much revenue as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Pluto combined.

GOOGLE FILM: Internet Giant goes Hollywood

After the first successful week of ‘The Social Network’ which tells the story of Mark Zuckerberg and the invention of Facebook, it was announced that a new film about Internet giant Google is planned for the near future.

The story is supposed to be based on the book by Ken Auletta ‘Googled – the End of the World as We Know It’.

The novel deals with the rise of the powerful media concern and their repercussions on economy and society as well as portraying Google founders Larry Page und Sergey Brin.

The film is supposed to reach worldwide cinemas by the end of 2012 – it is yet to be revealed who is gonna star the central characters. Whatcha think? Is this the kickstart of producing films about every single big internet company? Big yawn or hooray?

Social Web Radio Station QUU.FM from Germany do brand new social media news every full hour. They generate their programme from social media platforms and play a young and edgy mix of indie, hip hop and electronic tunes.

NEWS OF THE WEEK: BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN DOCUMENTARY PREMIERE (14th)

An Emmy Award-winning filmmaker has collaborated with Bruce Springsteen on a new documentary that chronicles the recording of Springsteen’s 1978 album ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’. The film, “The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town,” will premiere Sept. 14 at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The film will consist of never-before-seen footage of rehearsals and recording sessions shot from 1976-78, that filmmaker Thom Zimny gained access to.

At the time, Springsteen was working to move past years of legal trouble and he also struggled to match the success he had with “Born to Run“, his previous album.

A re-issue of the album “Darkness on the Edge of Town” is set to hit record stores sometime this fall.

The Hawk 105.7 from New Jersey do a a weekly two-hour celebration of the career of Bruce Springsteen! From 1973 to the present, all eras of Springsteen’s recordings are included. In addition to studio recordings, various live versions of songs are also represented–with a special emphasis on rare import discs. And whenever there is Bruce News or Bruce is in the news, you’ll hear all about it.

EVENT OF THE WEEK: Anniversary of Salzburg Festival 2010

This festival has a 90 year old tradition of bringing the best of opera, drama and classical concerts to the visitors of the placid city of Salzburg, Austria which also was the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Besides the beautiful music, the festival’s surrounding is worth a visit anytime. The ‘Old Town’ of Salzburg with its  famous baroque architecture is one of the best-preserved city centres north of the Alps.

The opening party of the Salzburg Festival was on 25^th of July and it ends August 30^th with lots and lots of cultural performances and happenings inbetween. The Vienna Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, Camerata Salzburg, Mozart Matinées and Chamber Concerts are only a drop in the ocean when it comes to line up.

Classic FM is broadcasting classical music in a popular and accessible style. This station also does a lot of charity: Classic FM’s Music Makers was founded in 2006, and is a grant giving charity which raises money to fund music education and music therapy projects working with children and adults throughout the UK. So just by tuning into this station, you do good already!
