Bollywood is a term used for the Hindi language film industry who is the largest film producer in India and one of the largest centers of film production in the entire world. The Music from Bollywood films is called ‘Filmi’ which makes a whopping 72% of the music sales in India.
The songs are often in either Hindi or Tamil, depending on the industry, and throughout the years, western elements have increased. Western pop music groups also have borrowed from Hindi-Songs. The Black Eyed Peas based ‘Don’t phunk with my heart’ on the 70’s Hindi Songs ‘Ye Mera Dil Yaar Ka Diwana’ and ‘Ae Nujawan Hai Sub’.
The Bollywood film soundtracks are still very diverse, ranging from entirely classical to fusing different genres.
Classical Filmi Lyrics tended towards the literary and were often based on contemporary Urdu, Tamil and Hindi poetry.
