NEWS OF THE WEEK: Mobile Phone Throwing World Championship

This may sound a bit bizarre, but every August, the small Finnish town of Savonlinna plays host to the Mobile Phone Throwing World Championships. This year the unusual event takes place on August 21st, and it attracts hundreds of participants from around the world, eager to test this very special skill.
Participants can compete in several categories: original, which is the traditional “over the shoulder” throw; freestyle, based on length of the throw; aesthetics, style and creative choreographic; and Juniors, for children 12 years and under.
The organiser provides the official World Championships’ mobile phones – there are all kinds of brands and models available to choose from and every contestant can choose the best fitting phone for him/her.
