Our favourite Electronic Music Blogs

Best way to stay in touch with your favourite electro acts is to put some good blogs in your RSS feed. This month we have some real goodies for ya.

First of all there’s Disco Demons. Name says it all: this blog has the most awesome Electro remixes in store for ya. You know why this is? The Disco Demons are super successful Djs themselves! 3300 facebook fans can’t be wrong so make sure you follow them.

Next one up is Some Kind of Awesome. This blog is written by four individuals from Brooklyn, Vancouver, Manchester UK and Los Angeles so it covers a lot of great stuff. Mainly amazing and rare remixes and Electro tracks, but also a few Indie tunes get thrown in so its a great mix for new discoverys!

Another online mag we love is Vacay Wave. Vacay Wave is an electronic music blog streamlined to bring you the latest and best from the music scene around the world – this includes Electronica, Electro, Dubstep, Dance, Indie Electro, Nu Disco, Nu Rave, DnB, House, Minimal, and more! The writers want to share their love for electronic music and their constant state of Vacay.

Culinary Happenings this Month

Paris’ t is the setting for the annual French Wine Fair. Professionals and enthusiasts gather over two days to sample the country’s best wines and some 200 winemakers attend. Sounds like your attendance is required – if you happen to be around that area, make sure you pop in for some yummy reds or tangy whiteys!

France is rocking another delicious happening : Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne celebrates its Strawberry Festival with a village-wide street party on May 15^th. Stalls sell local delicacies as well as, naturally, heaps of strawberries but the big draw is the baking of an enormous strawberry tart, demolished by festival-goers as soon as it is completed. Sounds fun!

Perfect with these events: One Summer Radio from France. Electronics, Urban Music and Trip Hop will get you in a good mood for some fun outdoor activities.

Sport in April

As the weather gets better, all sport fans bust outside for some physical action.

The final month of the National Basketball Association has started. The NBA has a great overview of who is playing against whom on their website, which you find right here.

Golfers have their eye on the Madeira Island Open. The Porto Santo golf club is the host of the Madeira Island Open on the PGA European Tour. One of the first European tournaments of the new season, it has a prize purse of almost US$700k and is running up until the 19^th of May.

One of the really good ones is Globespotters by the NYTimes. With themes like the gentrification of Mumbai’s western sea front and its vast swath of the resident flamingos or the London Antiques Fair in Chelsea… their reporters are all spread all over the world, bringing the coolest events straight to you via their blog.

Another classic: Lonely Planet! This Travel Guide has been an inspiration for people for many, many years. They document various things… the picnic culture in Turkey, recommendations for first-timers that travel to Hawaii or Tattoo-tourism all over the world.

Show of the Week: Steve Lamacqs Round Table.

Steve Lamacq of BBC 6 is a true radio legend. He is probably the most competent person in the world when it comes to Indie and Alternative music that is not mainstream.

And now check this: his show, The Round Table, has the concept of him inviting guests and discussing all the hot, new indie releases. You should really tune in, it is amazing! The show is next broadcast on Thursday, the 17^th of March at 6 pm GMT and its a weekly programme, so in case you miss it this week, you can always just tune in next thursday!

Plus the BBC offers the lovely service of a Steve-Lamacq-Podcast which is available for full seven days after the show. You can also catch the guy weekdays from 4 – 7 pm GMT on BBC 6 Music, when Steve plays new and classic tracks from established artists, young groups and unsigned bands. Formula One: Australian Grand Prix

Formula One motorsport comes to the Grand Prix Circuit by Albert Park in Melbourne. As many as 300,000 fans come to watch the practice and build-up to Sunday’s race from the 24^th til the 27^th of March.

The next few stops of the Formula One truck are Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia from the 8^th until the 10^th of April, Shanghai, Turkey and Spain. If you fancy taking part, make sure you book your tickets now!

And here’s a few last minute  news for you: McLaren are hoping that last-minute upgrades to their 2011 car will bring an improvement of up to one second per lap at this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix.

Lotus have announced Karun Chandhok is to join the team as reserve driver for the 2011 season. Chandhok, who made 10 Grands Prix starts last year for HRT, will make his first appearance for Lotus this weekend during Friday’s practice session for the Australian Grand Prix.
