Bands on Tour in March

The music business never stops putting out new tour-dates, so here’s a small overview of some of the highlights in March.

Sir Elton John is touring the US with stops in New York, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and lots more. It is his greatest hits tour, so this might be the very last chance to catch him. He’ll be playin Europe from late May, check his website for details.

Also on tour in the US: legendary Queens of the Stone Age, just before coming over to tour Europe in May. The tickets went on sale just last week, so make sure you get in on the action. Even though Bass player Nick Oliveri won’t be joining the tour, you’ll still get Josh Homme with a bunch of qualified musicians. It will be all worth it.

Guess who’s back with a few exclusive UK Shows? Boyzone! Yikes! Now 17 years into their career, the slightly optimistically named Boyzone are still undoubtedly popular and as well as old hits, the playlist draws from their latest album Brother.

Radio Station Big Oldies from Chicago will play you lots of Elton John, check it out on your STREAMIUM by searching for Big Oldies and listen to all those evergreens like ‘Rocket Man’ or ‘Still Standing’ always make our days!

Station of the Week: Sahaja Yoga Radio

Are you up for new relaxation techniques via your STREAMIUM? Spring (or the beginning of it) is generally a time where people reconsider their lifestyle, their nutrition or bad habits. If you’re one of them, you probably have come across yoga for a balanced way of living.

Streamium’s favourite Hip Hop / Rap Blogs

Last time we dug out our favourite Indie Music Blogs – this time we’d like to make Hip Hop the center of attention.

We do enjoy reading Concreteloop. This week you can grab an overview of the Grammys in pictures, the coolest behind-the-stage-impressions and, of course, some new fresh music!

Earmilk also has a fantastic Hip Hop and Rap section. Highlights in the past few days were the new Video by Nas and Damian Marley, a free download for Eminem’s ‘Gimme the ball’ as well as Pusha-T with ‘My God’.

Also awesome: The Rap Up. These guys like to cook up unusual stuff! This is a little more underground, a little less mainstream than Earmilk. For some rare gems, add these guys via RSS feed or add them on Facebook for some fresh tunes, yo! (Picking up the lingo here:)

For some instant Rap, whip on your STREAMIUM and tune into the Rapmonster from Pittsburgh. Rap Monster offers new rap songs of 2011 via it’s hip hop community of unsigned artists.

Station of the Week: FC ST. PAULI FM

The first ever Bundesliga Webradio has started! This is actually pretty sensational. FC ST. PAULI FM is the first ever web radio station for a Bundesliga club in Germany and it has been broadcasting for just over three weeks now.

Fußball-Club St. Pauli is a German sports club based in the St. Pauli quarter of Hamburg, which became famous all over the world with fanclubs in almost every country. Their logo, skull and crossbones, represents their culture as well as the left wing attitude of the club and their followers which is based on the punk culture that emerged in the 80’s in Hamburg as they didn’t conform to the rest of European soccer that was mired in racism and violence. St. Pauli took the progressive path, launching anti-racism and anti-homophobia campaigns years before other clubs followed.

They have four streams to choose from: The main station represents the neighborhood St. Pauli with Alternative, Indie, Hip Hop and Rock. The other three streams cover the genres Electro, Celtic and Punk.

Happy New Year from your STREAMIUM Team!

It has been a fantastic year with you guys! We’re all a little sentimental that its all over now, but there are great things to come next year!

It has been a pleasure looking for the coolest stations all over the world, the best albums that came out, checking out festivals, tours and events for you! We really hope you enjoyed the coverage of things we gave you.

We’d really like to thank all our readers & followers and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do an ‘Streamium around the world’ post.

Let’s start with Australasia, we’d like to introduce Matariki FM, located on Cook Islands. Although Matariki FM is predominantly and parochially native, its magazine style format is bilingual; that is the Rarotonga Cook Islands Maori language and English.

From Asia with love: Hamara-Sangeet Radio from India is, as they say, the best online station for Indian songs. Here you will find soothing music which will touch your heart.

Moving over to Africa: Contact FM from Kigali, Rwanda plays mainly world music, but also discusses political issues.

Now we’re poppin over to Europe. Stockholm, Sweden to be exact. Hit FM offers you a pleasant, danceable & energetic mix of the best dance, euro, disco, techno, club and house tunes with a smile and a few cool jams thrown in. They’ve been doing their job since 1988, so they know what their doing!

911 Groovy Radio from San José, Costa Rica, is probably Central Americas hippest station. These guys will deliver Hip Hop and Indie-Electro like they mean it. For all native Spanish speakers amongst you -  check out their website too! It does have a great design but unfortunately, we are not able to read Spanish

South America is bringing Radio Panamericana to you, broadcast from La Paz, Bolivia. They do a very wild mix of Latin, Pop and other genres. Worth checking out!

For stations from North America, we’d like to concentrate on the Caribbean. 88Rockkorsou from Willemstad is a very young format that offers a full spectrum far bigger than only rock music: RnB, Hip-Hop, Rap, Soul, Pop – you name it!

A crew of young DJ’s guarantee the consistent dynamic approach, of course, guided by the experience of the older part of the family, who really know what radio is all about…

Station of the Week: A Net Station from Antarctica!

What do you think how people from Antarctica feel about their homeplace? If you’d like to find out, simply tune into A Net Station, broadcast straight from Antarctica. Being one of the first Web radio stations in the world, this station has been, and continues to be an invigorating experience.

Today it is a well known radio station and a popular informational and educational resource. Antarctica has been put on the map in a way no one ever expected. In that sense, they were definitely there first.

The Best Books of the Year 2010

Last week we presented our favourite DVD Boxsets to you – this week we’d like to give you a little help to find presents for all your book-reading friends.

The New York Times has just released a list of the best books of 2010 as well as a list of Notable Children’s Books of 2010.

If you’re still in search for a quality read for your beloved nice, nephew, son or daughter – check out ‘Busing Brewster’ by author Richard Michelson. Brewster is a black child living in a segregated neighborhood in the early 1970s. He’s not dreaming of a way out, only of starting first grade with Miss Evelyn — ­until his mother announces that he and his brother will be bused to the “white school” an hour away. The understated honesty of Michelson’s writing and Roth’s art capture the period perfectly in this tale, one of this year’s New York Times best illustrated children’s books.“

We also have one for the grown-ups: ‘American Subversive’ by David Goodwillie. And here’s the plot: A bombing unites a blogger and a beautiful eco-terrorist in this literary thriller, an exploration of what motivates radicalism in an age of disillusion.

A great station for book lovers is Audiobook Radio from London, UK. This station provides 24/7 broadcasting of audiobooks read by professional actors and is, of course, available via STREAMIUM.

This week we’re in search of the greatest Dance/Electronic Station out there. Do you have any tips for us?

We totally dig https://intergalactic.fm/ from Amsterdam. This service is presented by MurderCapital FM and it’s all about Electro, Dance and House.

Also a really cool station: Simply Electronica from Germany. Germans are very good with all things tech, so they

surely know how to host a great radio station. The essence of Simply Electronica is to provide a wide range of high-quality electronic music with focus on deep house, tech house, minimal, techno and their variations.

Another station we love is LifeFM from London, UK. Best in Drum and Bass, UK, US & Progressive House, UK Garage, 4×4, Broken Beats, UK Dub, Soul and Smooth Grooves.

STATION OF THE WEEK: Chatterbox Radio

Chatterbox‘es goal is to educate and entertain the masses about video games, the interactive entertainment industry, and the issues surrounding it.

ChatterBox Video Game Radio is the one and only completely live and public forum available for people to discuss current events in the video game industry, and they want you to join in the discussion!
