Electronic Festivals This Summer

Is there anything better than dancing around in flip flops to some fat beats, clutching a cool beverage? To make sure you can do so, we’d like to introduce some amazing electronic festivals to you.

Barcelonas Sonár Festival is one of the biggest festivals in Electronic Music. Starting on the 16^th, it will make the masses dance for three full days. The finest of Djs and Bands will be playing day and night, including legendary Annie Mac of BBC Radio One, Dizzee Rascal, Atmosphere and Steve Aoki. Its gonna be splendid! Germany’s Melt Festival is also a number one address for a great mix of Indie and Electronica. This years line up is spectacular. Boys Noize, Crystal Castles, Cut Copy,  Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros… just to name a few! Save the date: 15^th – 17^th of July!

All these tickets are going fast (as always) so make sure you give yourself some leeway! Also make sure you tune into Sonár’s own Radio Station on your STREAMIUM for an extra dose of elecronica!

New Releases in June

So whats new this month? We have a small overview of new releases for ya!

Arctic Monkeys have just put out their record named ‘Suck it and See.’ Critics have already formed opinions, saying the Monkeys have matured. Heavy riffs and more obscure lyrics replaced the sharp power pop and well-observed storytelling of the band’s earlier output … might this be considered one of the albums of the year 2011?!?

Jason Beck aka Chilly Gonzales invented himself anew with ‘The Unspeakable: Chilly Gonzales’, it is out as of the 10^th of June! This guy loves to surprise us and for this one, he has returned to rap or – as his fans call it – art rap!

Also Rock band The Melvins are back with some new shenanigans in the shape of a live album. Swing on down to your local record shop to pick up a few for you and your friends to support some ageing rock stars!

Death Cab for Cutie’s new album is also out: Codes and Keys is the first album in three years by Washington’s favourite Indie Band. Its their 10^th studio album so these guys know what they are doing!

For new releases, you should check out German Radio Station Byte.Fm – they have a show on Friday afternoon called „Neuland“ where they introduce all new records – this Friday it’s songs by Chilly Gonzales from 1 pm. Tune in!

Station of the Week: Bollywood Hungama

This is not just an awesome station for all Bollywood fans, the website is also amazing. If you need any info on anything related to Bollywood, check this out: Movies, Celebs, Photos, Music… anything the heart desires!

Since it’s launch on August 15th 1997, it has become a fountainhead for Bollywood lovers all over the world as seen from it’s position in the Top 10 Indian sites.

Born, Destroyed, Gone – Album Releases in May

Time for a catch up on new releases!

Lady Gaga’s got something new up her sleeve for all her little monsters: Born This Way is scheduled for a worldwide release on May 23 and its gonna be huge! We can’t wait to see all the ideas for costumery, videos and last but not least songs by the GaGa.

Also Ben Harper, known for solid singer songwriter stuff, is forking out a new record. Give Till It’s Gone is coming out on the 17^th. It is Harper’s 10th studio album and he will immediately hit the road to support the disc and will headline a couple of festivals

Moby is also onto something good: Destroyed is available as of now and has hit the stores on May 16^th. He is touring from now until mid August, covering pretty much all of Europe. In case you want in on the action you better hurry!

Also released on the 16^th: Friendly Fires ‘Pala’ which had been announced all over the blogs for weeks now… these guys are touring as well, see their website for all the details you need to catch those hip Brits!

Welcome to the Phatbeats Club TV & Webradio from Greenwhich, UK! This station is playing you the biggest in Dance, Garage, Uk Funky, Bassline and Hip-hop.

Check the studio every week for special guests on rotation – they offer the service of video stream so you can basically be there with them while they are spinning some hot tunes. We have been watching those guys and it is really pretty fun as they get uber-excited about their own musical outcome. You can visit them on Facebook, too!

New Releases: April part 2

So here we go with all fresh releases for the second half of April – as we promised before!

Have you heard of tUnE-yArDs? This woman is a blast. She released her second album named ‘Who Kill’ just this week and the great thing is: Every soundbit on the album is produced by her. A one-girl-show. Check it out, its between Low-Fi, World Music and Indie.

Gorillaz just released their new album ‘The Fall‘ on CD– even though its spring! This album has been produced solely on an Ipad which sounds pretty amazing. It was first released before Christmas to a limited number of fans via the web– now the official CD is out! We can’t wait to hear what they came up with! Check it out via their website for a pre-listening!

Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer and legendary bassist Bootsy Collins, known worldwide for pioneering funk music with James Brown and Parliament Funkadelic, will release his first new album in five years, ‘Tha Funk Capitol of the World,’ April 26^th and he’s out presenting it in June all through the US.

Bands on Tour – April

This month is – as always – jam packed with bands and artists on tour. Have you checked into Adele’s new album? It surely is a keeper. This woman can actually sing really really well, no wonder she is Number 1 in the charts. She’ll be rocking the US next month and tickets are going fast, make sure you don’t miss out. Bob Seger is out and about to wow people too. Do you remember ’still the same’ from 1978? what an awesome song. Well, Bob is touring the US too, presenting new songs and evergreens. This should be good. You find correct dates and stops here.

This one is for all Europeans: Portugal the Man are doing Brussels, Zurich, Paris and quite a few dates in Germany this month. Its not to miss! Portugal the Man is one of the hottest Indie Bands around these days.

Lil Wayne is also touring throughout the US and Europe. There had been reports all over the net recently saying Lil Wayne‘s visa has been denied from countries in Europe, because of his criminal record, but a rep for Tunechi has said they are untrue. In case you’re unfamiliar with him– he is a successful american rapper with platinum sales! He also appeared on the Destiny’s Child top ten single “Soldier” in 2004.

Music News in April: Katy Perry, Stevie Wonder and more

Wow. Spring is already getting to people. We have a bit of amazing gossip for you:

Calvin Harris and Katy Perry reportedly had a bit of a fight on Twitter. Calvin’s tweet said “Sorry to all who wanted to see me with Katy – her team suddenly moved the goalposts, and i was to appear on stage with no production. Trust me you would have been more disappointed SEEING the show than u are with me cancelling.”

Katy then tweeted @CalvinHarris “funny the goal post seems to be perfectly fine for New Young Pony Club, Yelle, Robyn, Marina & The Diamonds to name a few. or how bout Janell Monae and her 16 piece band… Etc… it’s fine, I’m used to you cancelling on me, it’s become ur staple!”

Also Robbie Williams seemed to be in cancellation mode. He was meant to appear on the UK’s version of the X-Factor but reportedly turned down the offer. Simon Cowell was thought to have offered the Take That star a multi million pound deal, to join the judging panel of the TV talent show alongside Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue. Apparently Robbie is not in need of any dough…

Meanwhile Stevie Wonder has admitted that he would love to join the lineup of Simon Cowell’s new X Factor panel in the US. Reportedly he said “Simon should give me a buzz. I love X Factor and to be a judge would be great. Seeking out for new talent? I have an ear for it.”
