New Rock Albums in April

The music madness is about to continue… This month, all lovers of rock will get their money worth.

The Kills are about to release their new work called Blood Pressures – and already have a free track online. Just go to their website and enter your email to receive your free download. You may as well stick it on the hard drive of your STREAMIUM straight away.

Raveonettes are poppin out new material this month and its called ‘Raven In The Grave‘.

Elbow seem to have an important message to all male friends: Build A Rocket Boys! What they mean by this should be found out by yourself.

And now we’re getting to the really important stuff: the much loved Foo Fighters are back with ‘Wasting Light’ . Dave Grohl definately is one of the old school – having played the drums in legendary band Nirvana as well as side projects with Queens of the Stone Age, you may as well call him the godfather of Rock. Check their website for all upcoming gigs and festivals this summer!

TV On The Radio’s new album Nine Types Of Light is coming out in the middle of April, as well as the Meat Puppets ‘Lollipop’. We seriously don’t know where to get all the money from to purchase all of those releases. Good way to get around it is to listen to all new stuff on your STREAMIUM.

Album Releases in March Part Two

As we promised, we will keep you on track with all new releases in the second half of March. There is so much great stuff coming out at the moment, we don’t know where to start.

Okay, here is the quick overview: Panic! At The Disco is releasing Vices & Virtues plus they are on tour right now – check their website for details!

Grunge legend Soundgarden is bringing out their live album ‘Live on I5′.

One hit wonder Edwyn Collins is apparently ‘Losing Sleep’.

Punk Rockers Green Day declare themselves ‘Awesome As F**k’, which is a double live album.

For those who still live in the 80’s: There’s new stuff from Duran Duran too!

Hip Hop Fans should definately listen to Snoop Dogg’s new album ‘Doggumentary‘

And all Pop loving fans amongst you should look forward to Britney Spears new release ‘Femme Fatale‘ which pretty much describes all of her fall outs from the past years. Follow her on Twitter if you like – we’re sure she has some clever things to say every once in a while:)

Show of the Week: Steve Lamacqs Round Table.

Steve Lamacq of BBC 6 is a true radio legend. He is probably the most competent person in the world when it comes to Indie and Alternative music that is not mainstream.

And now check this: his show, The Round Table, has the concept of him inviting guests and discussing all the hot, new indie releases. You should really tune in, it is amazing! The show is next broadcast on Thursday, the 17^th of March at 6 pm GMT and its a weekly programme, so in case you miss it this week, you can always just tune in next thursday!

Plus the BBC offers the lovely service of a Steve-Lamacq-Podcast which is available for full seven days after the show. You can also catch the guy weekdays from 4 – 7 pm GMT on BBC 6 Music, when Steve plays new and classic tracks from established artists, young groups and unsigned bands. Also make sure you follow the @Lamacqshow on Twitter while you check him out on your STREAMIUM.

South by Southwest 2011 Recap

The SXSW® Music and Media Conference has just celebrated its 25th Anniversary. What this is? South by Southwest showcases hundreds of gigs and bands from around the globe on over eighty stages in downtown Austin, Texas, USA.

There were also movie screenings, exhibitions, trade shows and panel discussions for the industry crowd.

To put it in simple words: This conference looks out for all those great new acts that will be on Hot Rotation next year!

The highlights of this year’s conference were The Foo Fighters’ secret act, Jack White, Erykah Badu, the Wu Tang Clan as well as James Blake plus hundreds and hundreds of other newbies that played venues all around Austin.

The great thing about it is: people like you and me can also get in on the action and purchase a ticket. The only downside to it: you will have to wait a full year!

You should go ahead and check the SXSW very own radio station via STREAMIUM, simply search for South By Southwest and make time pass more quickly until next year.

Station of the Week: Van the Man Radio

Van Morrisson – absolute musical legend – has his own station dedicated to him. He was  born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1945 and has had an amazing musical career, including several Grammy nominations, 2 Grammy Awards in 1996 and 1998 for Have I Told You Lately That I Love You?” with The Chieftains and “Don’t Look Back” with John Lee Hooker.

Someone did love him enough to build an entire station around him. To be fair, the website could do with improvement, but the stream works just fine!

Paul McCartney Composes Work for New York City Ballet

These news have just hit the headlines: In an unexpected intersection of celebrity pop music and ballet — that most refined of the performing arts Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney has written a major orchestral work for the New York City Ballet. It is a love story titled “Ocean’s Kingdom” and will have its premiere in September.

He is not just the most successful songwriter in the history of popular music. McCartney is a multiple Grammy Award- and Academy Award-winning English singer-songwriter, poet, composer, multi-instrumentalist, entrepreneur, record producer, film producer, painter, and animal rights and peace activist. No surprise then he’s off to write for the Ballet now. He gained worldwide fame as a member of The Beatles, alongside John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, but surely we don’t need to tell you this. Check out all news on his website.

Albums out in March

Spring is here! Which you can totally tell by all those musical flowers growing out of the ground.

Next month you can expect new material by gorgeous Lykke Li, Avril Lavigne, R.E.M with their a new album called ‘Collapse into now’, Raekwon and Lupe Fiasco. And these are only the releases until the 8^th of March!

Also new out on the 15^th : the New York Dolls seem to be having a second time round. Do you guys remember them? They pretty much represent the essence of New York Glam Rock from the 70’s.

Ladies and Gentlemen: Dionne Warwick has a new album out with the wise title ‘Only Trust Your Heart’. She has had over an illustrious four-decade career and established herself as an international musical legend. The new record is due out on the 15^th of March too.

The second half of the month holds even more surprises, but we’ll get to that later. For now, we advise you to make the most of your favourite STREAMIUM stations this week as you might get very busy catching up on all releases next month!

Streamium’s favourite Hip Hop / Rap Blogs

Last time we dug out our favourite Indie Music Blogs – this time we’d like to make Hip Hop the center of attention.

We do enjoy reading Concreteloop. This week you can grab an overview of the Grammys in pictures, the coolest behind-the-stage-impressions and, of course, some new fresh music!

Earmilk also has a fantastic Hip Hop and Rap section. Highlights in the past few days were the new Video by Nas and Damian Marley, a free download for Eminem’s ‘Gimme the ball’ as well as Pusha-T with ‘My God’.

Also awesome: The Rap Up. These guys like to cook up unusual stuff! This is a little more underground, a little less mainstream than Earmilk. For some rare gems, add these guys via RSS feed or add them on Facebook for some fresh tunes, yo! (Picking up the lingo here:)

For some instant Rap, whip on your STREAMIUM and tune into the Rapmonster from Pittsburgh. Rap Monster offers new rap songs of 2011 via it’s hip hop community of unsigned artists.

Music News in February

Sad news first: The White Stripes have split! After 13 years of Jack and Meg White aka The White Stripes, they announced on February 2^nd that they are officially disbanding – but putting an emphasis on the fact that ‘it is seen as a positive move done out of respect for the art and music that the band has created’. Nothing is lost! Check out their official statement via their website.

For last weeks SuperBowl, the NFL has returned to edgy pop music again with this year’s halftime act the Black Eyed Peas. They delivered an eye-popping spectacle worthy of the Bowl’s status as most watched Television Event of the Year. Did you happen to watch it?

Oh and have you heard? It seems Britney Spears has decided to retake the title of Pop Queen this year – and we now have the demo of her first single for 2011, Hold It Against Me. You can check it out here.

It’s got a bit more dubstep in than we’re used to with Britney – and the beat really gets heavy in the end. Still – we like the new direction she’s going in.

We’re pretty sure 2011 will hold many surprises when it comes to new music, we’re already off to a great start!
